The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is heating up! The first real swell of the waiting period showed its face, giving the judges the tough task to analyze and score the waves ridden during the second week of competition.
As more and more submissions come in, it's no surprise that Hawaiian surfers are sitting on top of the leaderboard at the moment. They know the breaks and they put in the time, whether there is a filmer at the beach or not.
On the men's side, it's no surprise that John John Florence snagged the two best scores of the event so far (28.3 and 26.3), with two solid entries for Pipe (Backdoor).
Maui's Billy Kemper also came in hot with a solid 25 point score at Backdoor.
Other surfers that have been putting in the time are Mason Ho, Tosh Tudor, Kalani David and John Michael Van Hohenstein, the only surfer in the event who submitted waves for all three venues - Haleiwa, Sunset and Pipe.
On the Women's side, Coco Ho is sitting on top of the rankings, with two good barrels at Backdoor and two entries from Sunset.
Current World Champ and Olympic Gold Carissa Moore is right behind Coco, putting down the highest score of the event so far (women's) with an absolut nug at Backdoor.
Just like in last year's competition, local girl Zoe Mcdougall has been working hard and banking some clips, as well as Pipe charger Moana Jones, who just won the Vans Crown for Week 2, with this double barrel at Pipe:
Starting today, back to back large swells are hitting the North Shore and we expect all three venues to come to life in the next few days, and weeks to be honest. Plenty of juice on the way!
So, stay tuned and check back for daily new entries and fresh content around the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
